Non-Domestic Rating (Information) Act 1996

1996 CHAPTER 13

An Act to make provision for and in connection with the disclosure by persons who are valuation officers or assessors to other such persons of information connected with non-domestic rating.

Be it enacted by the Queen’s most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:β€”

1 Disclosure of information.

(1) Where a rating official requests another rating official to disclose any information to him in order to assist him in the performance of his statutory functions, the other official shall not be prevented from so disclosing the information merely because it is held by him in connection with his statutory functions.

(2) In subsection (1)β€”

(3) In Schedule 11 to the Local Government Finance Act 1988 (valuation tribunals), in paragraph 8(3)(ea) (power to make regulations as to evidence)β€”

(a) for β€œdocuments or” substitute β€œ documents, ” ; and

(b) insert after sub-paragraph (iv) (not as part of that sub-paragraph) β€œ or of information disclosed by virtue of section 1(1) of the Non-Domestic Rating (Information) Act 1996; ”

2 Short title and extent.

(1) This Act may be cited as the Non-Domestic Rating (Information) Act 1996.

(2) This Act does not extend to Northern Ireland.
