The Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 54, 61, 63 and 66 of the Road Traffic Act 1988( 1 ), and after consultation with representative organisations in accordance with section 195(2) of that Act, hereby make the following Regulations:
Citation and commencement
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Motor Vehicles (Approval) (Amendment) Regulations 2000 and shall come into force on 18th August 2000.
Amendment of the Motor Vehicles (Approval) Regulations 1996
2. The Motor Vehicles (Approval) Regulations 1996( 2 ) are amended as follows.
3. In paragraph (1) of regulation 3, sub-paragraph (b) shall be omitted.
4. In paragraph (1) of regulation 5, the word “and” shall be inserted after sub-paragraph (a) and the words from “and” after sub-paragraph (b) to the end of sub-paragraph (c) shall be omitted.
5. In paragraph (2) of regulation 12, for sub-paragraph (a) shall be substituted—
“ (a) the letter “R” if the certificate is being issued otherwise than on a basis specified in sub-paragraphs (aa) to (d) below ” .
6. In Schedule 1, paragraph 1 shall be omitted.
