The Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 405(2), 406 and 425 of the Greater London Authority Act 1999( 1 ) hereby makes the following Order:—

Citation and commencement

1. This Order may be cited as the Greater London Authority Act 1999 (Commencement No. 8 and Consequential Provisions) Order 2000 and shall come into force on 22nd January 2001.

Commencement

2. The following provisions of the Greater London Authority Act 1999 shall come into force on 22nd January 2001—

(a) section 254 so far as it relates to paragraphs 1 to 18 of Schedule 21;

(b) paragraphs 1 to 18 of Schedule 21.

Amendment of the Private Hire Vehicles (London) Act 1998

3. —(1) The Private Hire Vehicles (London) Act 1998( 2 ) shall be amended as follows.

(2) In section 36 (interpretation) for the definition of “controlled district ” there shall be substituted—
