The Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 173 and 270(1) of the Local Government Act 1972( 1 ), and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations:

Citation, commencement and application

1. —(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Local Authorities (Members' Allowances) (Amendment) (England) (No. 2) Regulations 2000 and shall come into force on 1st April 2000.

(2) These Regulations apply to local authorities in England only.

Increase of allowances

2. —(1)Regulation 18 of the Local Authorities (Members' Allowances) Regulations 1991( 2 ) is amended–

(a) in paragraph (1) (attendance allowance), by the substitution, for “ £29.48”, of “£30.39”; and

(b) in paragraph (2) (financial loss allowance)–

(i) in sub-paragraph (a), by the substitution for “£26.24” of “ £27.65”; and

(ii) in sub-paragraphs (b) and (c), by the substitution for “£52.49 ” of “£55.31”.

(2) The amendments made by paragraph (1) shall have effect in respect of approved duties performed on or after 1st April 2000.

Revocation

3.The Local Authorities (Members' Allowances) (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations 1999 are revoked insofar as they relate to local authorities in England.

1972 c. 70 . Section 173 was amended by the Local Government, Planning and Land Act 1980 (c. 65) , section 24(1), and by the Local Government and Housing Act 1989 (c. 42) , Schedule 11, paragraph 26. See also the definition of “prescribed” in section 270 of the 1972 Act. The exercise, in relation to local authorities in Wales, of the powers conferred by section 173 of the Local Government Act 1972 is transferred to the Welsh Assembly under the National Assembly for Wales (Transfer of Functions) Order 1999 (S.I. 1999/672 ), Schedule 1.
