The Food Standards Act 1999 (Commencement No. 1) Order 2000

The Secretary of State for Health, in exercise of the power conferred on him by section 43(2) of the Food Standards Act 1999( 1 ), hereby makes the following Order:

1. This Order may be cited as the Food Standards Act 1999 (Commencement No. 1) Order 2000.

2. The following provisions of the Food Standards Act 1999 shall come into force on 11th January 2000—

(a) sections 1(1) (Food Standards Agency), 2 (appointment of members), 3(1) to (3) (appointment of chief executive), 36(2) (interpretation), 41 (transfer schemes) and 42 (transition);

(b) in so far as they relate to Wales and Scotland, section 3(4) and (5) (appointment of directors), section 5(1) and paragraphs 1, 5 and 6 of Schedule 2 (advisory committees);

(c) section 3(6) (holding of office) in so far as—

(i) it is concerned with the chief executive, and

(ii) it is concerned with directors and relates to Wales and Scotland;

(d) for the purpose of introducing those provisions of Schedule 2 which are brought into force by this Order, section 5(4);

(e) in so far as it relates to the definitions of the terms “Agency” and “appropriate authorities”, section 36(1); and

(f) Schedule 1 (constitution of the Agency).
