The Education (Student Support) (European Institutions) (Amendment) Regulations 2000

The Secretary of State for Education and Employment, in exercise of the powers conferred on the Secretary of State by sections 22, 42(6) and 43(1) of the Teaching and Higher Education Act 1998( 1 ) hereby makes the following Regulations:–

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Education (Student Support) (European Institutions) (Amendment) Regulations 2000 and shall come into force on 21st April 2000.

2. The Education (Student Support) (European Institutions) Regulations 1999( 2 ) shall be amended as follows.

3. In regulation 3(1)–

(a) at the end of sub-paragraph (c) delete the word “and”;

(b) at the end of sub-paragraph (d) substitute for the full stop a semicolon and after the semicolon insert the word “and”; and

(c) after sub-paragraph (d) insert the following sub-paragraph:

(e) before the first day of the first academic year of the course he has held some other statutory award in respect of his attendance at a post-graduate course for a period greater than two years, unless in the circumstances of his case, the Secretary of State otherwise directs.

4. In regulation 6(1)–

(a) at the end of sub-paragraph (c) delete the word “and”;

(b) in sub-paragraph (d) substitute for the full stop a semicolon and after the semicolon insert the word “and”;

(c) after sub-paragraph (d) insert the following sub-paragraphs:

(e) the reasonable cost of travel between the person’s residence while attending his course at the College and the College; and

(f) the reasonable cost of travel incurred for authorised absences for the purpose of research carried out while attending his course at the College.

5. In regulation 7–

(a) in sub-paragraph (a) for “of 10,777.422 euros” there shall be substituted “ at the rate of 20,868,000 Italian Lire per annum or 1,739,000 Italian Lire per month from 1st September 1999 to 31st December 1999 and at the rate of 21,300,000 Italian Lire per annum or 1,775,000 Italian Lire per month from 1st January 2000”;

(b) in sub-paragraph (d) delete after the semicolon the word “and”;

(c) at the end of sub-paragraph (e) substitute for the full stop a semicolon and after the semicolon insert the word “and”; and

(d) after sub-paragraph (e) insert the following subparagraph:

(f) the reasonable cost of travel incurred for authorised absences for the purpose of research carried out while attending his course at the Institute.
