The Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 41 of the Road Traffic Act 1988( 1 ), and after consultation with representative organisations in accordance with section 195(2) of that Act, hereby makes the following Regulations:

Citation and commencement

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Road Vehicles (Authorised Weight) (Amendment) Regulations 2001 and shall come into force on 17th April 2001.

Amendment of Road Vehicles (Authorised Weight) Regulations 1998

2. —(1)The Road Vehicles (Authorised Weight) Regulations 1998( 2 ) shall be further amended as follows.

(2) In regulation 2, paragraph (1) shall be amended by—

(a) inserting in the appropriate alphabetical order the following definitions—

(b) in the Table to the definition of “low pollution engine”, substituting “(NOx)” for “(Nox)” in the heading to the third column.

(3) In Schedule 2—

(a) in paragraph 1(2), for the words “and 12” shall be substituted “, 12 and 14”;

(b) in paragraph 1(4), for the words “and 12” shall be substituted “, 12, 13 and 14”;

(c) after paragraph 1(4) shall be inserted the following sub-paragraph—

(5) The condition referred to in items 13 and 14 of Table 3 is that the vehicle is fitted with a low pollution engine. ; and

(d) at the end, sub-paragraph (5) shall be omitted.

Amendment of the Road Vehicles (Authorised Weight) (Amendment) Regulations 2000

3. —(1)The Road Vehicles (Authorised Weight) (Amendment) Regulations 2000( 4 ) shall be amended as follows.

(2) In regulation 3, paragraph (2) shall cease to have effect.
