The General Teaching Council for England (Additional Functions) (Amendment) Order 2001

Being of the opinion that the General Teaching Council for England may, having regard to their general objectives, appropriately discharge the additional functions hereby conferred and having carried out such consultation as appears to him to be appropriate, the Secretary of State for Education and Employment, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 7(1) and (4) and 42(7) of the Teaching and Higher Education Act 1998( 1 ), hereby makes the following Order—

1. This Order may be cited as the General Teaching Council for England (Additional Functions) (Amendment) Order 2001 and shall come into force on 1st June 2001.

2. The General Teaching Council for England (Additional Functions) Order 2000( 2 ) shall be amended as follows—

(a) in article 2, at the appropriate place, there shall be inserted:

“national numeracy test” means the national test for teacher training candidates in numeracy, being a standard determined by the Secretary of State under regulation 13 of the Education (Induction Arrangements for School Teachers) (England) Regulations 1999 ( 3 ) ; ; and

“performance threshold” means the professional standards from time to time determined by the Secretary of State and set out in Annex 1 of the School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document 2000 ( 4 ) , against which classroom teachers are assessed to determine whether they have passed the threshold for the purpose of calculating their pay; ;

(b) in article 3(3), after “this order” there shall be inserted—

(c) in Part II of the Schedule, for paragraph 8 there shall be substituted the following:

8. If known, the teacher’s national insurance number. ;

(d) in Part II of the Schedule, after paragraph 17, there shall be inserted—

17A. If known, an indication of whether the teacher has passed the performance threshold, the date on which he passed it and the school at which he was employed when he passed the performance threshold. ;

(e) in Part II of the Schedule, after paragraph 18, sub-paragraph (2), there shall be inserted—

(3) Where the teacher gained Qualified Teacher Status between 1 May 2000 and 30 April 2001 and has not yet passed or failed an induction period, if known, an indication of whether the teacher has passed the national numeracy test and if he has not, the number of attempts the teacher has made at the test. ; and

(f) in Part II of the Schedule, after paragraph 23 there shall be inserted—

23A. The terms of any disciplinary order, other than a reprimand, for the time being in force, made by the Council or the General Teaching Council for Wales.

23B. The terms of any reprimand issued by the Council or the General Teaching Council for Wales, for a period of two years from the date the reprimand was issued. .
