The Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions, in exercise of his powers under sections 7(1) and 143 of the Railways Act 1993( 1 ) and after consultation with the Rail Regulator, hereby makes the following Orderβ€”

Citation and commencement

1. This Order may be cited as the Strategic Rail Authority (Licence Exemption) Order 2001 and shall come into force on 1st March 2001.

Exemption

2. β€”(1) Exemption is granted to the Strategic Rail Authority (β€œthe Authority”) and every wholly owned subsidiary of the Authority from the requirement to be authorised by licence to be the operator of any railway asset.

(2) An exemption granted under paragraph (1) may be revoked as regards the Authority or any of its wholly owned subsidiaries by not less than one month’s notice given by the Secretary of State to the Authority.
