Citation, commencement, extent and interpretation

1. —(1) This Order, which extends to England only, may be cited as the Non-Domestic Rating (Designation of Rural Areas) (England) Order 2001 and shall come into force on 31st December 2001.

(2) In this Order:

“the map” means the maps each entitled “Map referred to in the Non-Domestic Rating (Designation of Rural Areas) (England) Order 2001 ”, of which prints, signed by a member of the Senior Civil Service in the Department for Transport, Local Government and the Regions, are deposited and available for inspection at the offices of the Secretary of State for Transport, Local Government and the Regions; and

“urban areas” means—

excluding, in each case, any part or parts of the areas which are designated as rural areas under—

2. There is designated as a rural area for the purposes of section 42A (rural settlement list) of the Local Government Finance Act 1988 all of England outside the urban areas.
