The Civil Courts (Amendment) Order 2001

The Lord Chancellor, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 99(1) of the Supreme Court Act 1981( 1 ) and section 2(1) of the County Courts Act 1984( 2 ), makes the following Order:—

1. —(1) This Order may be cited as the Civil Courts (Amendment) Order 2001 and shall come into force on 1st April 2002.

(2) In this Order, a Schedule referred to by a number alone means the Schedule so numbered in the Civil Courts Order 1983( 3 ).

2. —(1) The holding of the Chepstow and Monmouth County Courts shall be discontinued( 4 ).

(2) In Schedule 1, “Chepstow” and “Monmouth” shall be deleted from their positions in the second column opposite the entry for “Newport (Gwent) ” in the first column.

(3) In Schedule 3, the entries relating to Chepstow and Monmouth shall be deleted.

(4) The Newport (Gwent) County Court shall have jurisdiction in proceedings commenced in the Chepstow County Court or the Monmouth County Court before this Order comes into force.

Directions given on behalf of the Lord Chancellor under section 2(3) of the County Courts Act 1984 will determine which court districts will include the former districts of the Chepstow and Monmouth County Courts with effect from 1st April 2002.
