The Gaming Act (Variation of Monetary Limits) Order 2001

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 20(3) and (8) and 51(4) of the Gaming Act 1968( 1 ), hereby makes the following Order:
1. —(1) This Order may be cited as the Gaming Act (Variation of Monetary Limits) Order 2001.
(2) This Order shall come into force on 1st May 2001.
(3) In this Order “the 1968 Act” means the Gaming Act 1968.
(4) This Order extends to England and Wales and Scotland.
2. —(1) Section 20(3) of the 1968 Act (under which the maximum permitted aggregate amount of winnings in respect of games of bingo played in one week simultaneously on different club premises is £50,000( 2 )) shall have effect with the substitution, for the reference to the sum specified in that subsection, of a reference to the sum of £55,000.
(2) Section 20(8) of the 1968 Act (under which the maximum amount by which weekly winnings on any particular bingo club premises may exceed the aggregate amount of the stakes hazarded is £6,500( 3 )) shall have effect with the substitution, for the reference to the sum specified in that subsection, of a reference to the sum of £10,000.
3. Article 2 of the Gaming Act (Variation of Monetary Limits) Order 1999( 4 ) and article 2 of the Gaming Act (Variation of Monetary Limits) Order 2000( 5 ) are hereby revoked.

1968 c. 65 ; section 20(3) was amended by section 1 of the Gaming (Amendment) Act 1980 (c. 8) .
The sum of £50,000 is as substituted by article 2 of the Gaming Act (Variation of Monetary Limits) Order 1999 (S.I. 1999/1260 ).
The sum of £6,500 is as substituted by article 2 of the Gaming Act (Variation of Monetary Limits) Order 2000 (S.I. 2000/1213 ).
