Whereas the Secretary of State, in pursuance of section 60A(1)(a) of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984( 1 ), issued a code of practice for the visual recording of interviews held by police officers at police stations;

And whereas the Secretary of State, in pursuance of section 67(4) of that Act, by order( 2 ) brought that code into operation on 7th May 2002;

Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 60A(1)(b) and (2) of that Act, the Secretary of State hereby makes the following Order:

1. This Order may be cited as the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (Visual Recording of Interviews) (Certain Police Areas) (No. 2) Order 2002 and shall come into force on 30th October 2002.

2. This Order shall apply to interviews commencing after midnight on 29th October 2002 and held by police officers at the following police stations within the police area( 3 ) of Essex:

(a) Harlow;

(b) Colchester; and

(c) Southend.

3. Interviews to which this Order applies shall be visually recorded in accordance with the requirements of the code of practice on visual recording which came into operation on 7th May 2002.
