The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 157(1) of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999( 1 ), hereby makes the following Regulations:

Citation and commencement

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Immigration (Short-term Holding Facilities) Regulations 2002 and shall come into force on 4th November 2002.

Extension of section 149 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 to short-term holding facilities

2.Section 149 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 (contracting out of certain detention centres) is hereby extended to short-term holding facilities.
