PRIVATE SECURITY
The Private Security Industry Act 2001 (Commencement No. 1) Order 2002

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 26(2) of the Private Security Industry Act 2001( 1 ), hereby makes the following Order:
1. —(1) This Order may be cited as the Private Security Industry Act 2001 (Commencement No. 1) Order 2002.
(2) In this Order, “the 2001 Act” means the Private Security Industry Act 2001.
2. The following provisions of the 2001 Act shall come into force on 1st January 2003:
(a) section 1(6) (Security Industry Authority) in so far as necessary for the purposes of paragraphs (c) and (d) below;
(b) section 25 (interpretation);
(c) paragraphs 1 to 3 of Schedule 1; and
(d) paragraph 6(1)(a) and (2) of Schedule 1.
3. The following provisions of the 2001 Act shall come into force on 1st April 2003:
(a) section 1 (Security Industry Authority) to the extent not already in force;
(b) section 2 (directions etc. by the Secretary of State);
(c) section 24 (orders and regulations); and
(d) Schedule 1 to the extent not already in force.
4. The following provisions of the 2001 Act shall come into force on 1st April 2003 for the purpose of making regulations or orders:
(a) section 3(3) (conduct prohibited without a licence);
(b) section 4(1), (2) and (3) (exemptions from licensing requirement);
(c) section 8(2), (5), (7) and (8) (licences to engage in licensable conduct);
(d) section 9(1), (2) and (3) (licence conditions);
(e) section 13(5) and (6) (licensing at local authority level);
(f) section 15(2)(f)(ii), (3)(a) and (b), (4) and (8) (arrangements for the grant of approvals);
(g) section 17(1) and (5) (imposition of requirements for approval);
(h) paragraph 1 of Schedule 2; and
(i) paragraph 7 of Schedule 2.
