The Race Relations Act 1976 (Seamen Recruited Abroad) Order 2003

The Secretary of State, after consulting the Commission for Racial Equality, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 73(1)(a) of the Race Relations Act 1976( 1 ), hereby makes the following Order:

Citation and commencement

1. This Order may be cited as the Race Relations Act 1976 (Seamen Recruited Abroad) Order 2003 and shall come into force on 19th July 2003.

Amendment of section 9 of the Race Relations Act 1976

2. —(1) Section 9 of the Race Relations Act 1976 is amended as follows.

(5) In this section—

“pay” includes retirement or death benefit;

“retirement or death benefit” means a pension, annuity, lump sum, gratuity or other similar benefit which will be paid or given to the employee or contract worker or a member of his family or household in the event of his retirement or death. .
