The Chancellor of the Exchequer, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 46A of the Marriage Act 1949( 1 ) and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following regulations—
Citation, commencement and interpretation
1. —(1) These regulations may be cited as the Marriages (Approved Premises) (Amendment) Regulations 2003 and shall come into force on 31st July 2003.
(2) In these regulations, “the principal Regulations” means the Marriages (Approved Premises) Regulations 1995( 2 ).
Amendment of regulation 7 of the principal Regulations
2. —(1) In regulation 7(1) of the principal Regulations (expiry and renewal of approval) replace “paragraph (5)” with “paragraphs (5) and (6)”.
(2) In regulation 7(3) of the principal Regulations delete “less than six months nor”.
(3) After regulation 7(5) of the principal Regulations, insert the following—
“ (6) Where the holder fails to apply for the renewal of approval and the approval expires in consequence of his failure, an application for renewal made in accordance with paragraph (4) and within one month of the expiry shall reinstate the approval and an approval so reinstated shall continue in effect until such time as the application is finally determined or withdrawn. ” .

1949 c. 76 . Section 46A was inserted by section 1(2) of the Marriage Act 1994 (c. 34) . The power to make regulations in section 46A(1) was transferred to the Chancellor of the Exchequer by article 3(1) and paragraph 7(a) of Schedule 1 to the Transfer of Functions (Registration and Statistics) Order 1996 (S.I. 1996/273 ).
