The Registered Health Care Profession (Designation No. 2) Order 2003

In exercise of the powers conferred upon him by the definition of “registered health care professional” in section 11(2) of the Road Traffic Act 1988( 1 ) and section 38(2A) of the Transport and Works Act 1992( 2 ) and by the definition of “health care professional” in section 31(9A) of the Transport and Works Act 1992( 3 ), the Secretary of State hereby makes the following Order:

1. This Order may be cited as the Registered Health Care Profession (Designation No. 2) Order 2003 and shall come into force on 1st November 2003.

2. The profession of paramedics, being a profession mentioned in section 60(2) of the Health Act 1999( 4 ), by virtue of being regulated by the Health Professions Order 2001( 5 ) is hereby designated as a health care profession( 6 ) for the purposes of—

(a) the definition of “registered health care professional” in section 11(2) of the Road Traffic Act 1988 and section 38(2A) of the Transport and Works Act 1992 ; and

(b) the definition of “health care professional” in section 31(9A) of the Transport and Works Act 1992 .

Health care profession is defined in section 11(2) of the Road Traffic Act 1988 and sections 31(9A) and 38(2A) of the Transport and Works Act 1992 as any profession mentioned in section 60(2) of the Health Act 1999 other than the profession of practising medicine and the profession of nursing.
