The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on her by sections 39(5) and 105 of the Local Government Act 2000( 1 ), hereby makes the following Regulations:β
Citation, commencement and application
1. β(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Local Authorities (Elected Mayors) (England) Regulations 2005 and shall come into force on the day that section 19(1) of the Children Act 2004( 2 ) comes into force.
(2) These Regulations apply in relation to local authorities in England only.
Elected mayor to be treated as member
2. An elected mayor of a local authority is to be treated as a member of the local authority for the purposes of section 19(1) of the Children Act 2004(lead member for childrenβs services).
