In exercise of the powers conferred on the Secretary of State by sections 135(2), 145(1) and 210(7) of the Education Act 2002( 1 ) the Secretary of State for Education and Skills makes the following Regulations:

1. —(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Education (Head Teachers' Qualifications) (England) (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations 2005 and shall come into force on 31 st December 2005.

(2) These Regulations apply only in relation to England.

2. —(1)The Education (Head Teachers' Qualifications) (England) Regulations 2003( 2 ) shall be amended in accordance with this regulation.

(2) For regulation 3 (Interpretation) substitute—

3. In these Regulations—

“National Professional Qualification for Headship” means the qualification awarded by the Secretary of State to a person if he is satisfied that the person has successfully completed a course of training for the National Professional Qualification for Headship approved by the National College for School Leadership Limited; and

“National Professional Qualification in Integrated Centre Leadership” means the qualification awarded by the Secretary of State to a person if he is satisfied that the person has successfully completed a course of training for the National Professional Qualification in Integrated Centre Leadership approved by the National College for School Leadership Limited. .

(3) After regulation 5(2) insert—

(3) A person may serve as a head teacher of a maintained nursery school without a qualification mentioned in regulation 4(1) if he holds, or has successfully applied for a training course for the purpose of gaining, the National Professional Qualification in Integrated Centre Leadership. .
