The Secretary of State makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972( 1 ).

He has been designated( 2 ) for the purposes of section 2(2) in relation to the regulation of the type, description, construction or equipment of vehicles.

Citation, commencement and interpretation

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Passenger and Goods Vehicles (Recording Equipment) (Fitting Date) Regulations 2006 and shall come into force on 1st May 2006.

Amendment of the Transport Act 1968

2. In section 97 of the Transport Act 1968( 3 ) (installation and use of recording equipment), in subsection (7), for the definition of “the relevant Annexes” substitute —
