The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 160A(5), 172(4) and 185(3) of the Housing Act 1996( 1 ), makes the following Regulations:
Citation, commencement and application
1. —(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Allocation of Housing and Homelessness (Eligibility) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2006 and shall come into force at 4 p.m. on 25th July 2006.
(2) These Regulations apply to England only.
Persons who have left Lebanon
2. —(1)The Allocation of Housing and Homelessness (Eligibility) (England) Regulations 2006( 2 ) are amended as follows.
(2) After regulation 2(3) insert—
“ (4) For the purposes of regulations 4(2)(h) and 6(2)(h), “the relevant period” means the period beginning at 4 p.m. on 25th July 2006 and ending on 31st January 2007. ” .
(3) In regulation 4(2)(f), omit “and”.
(4) At the end of regulation 4(2)(g), insert “; and”.
(5) After regulation 4(2)(g), insert—
“ (h) during the relevant period, a person who left Lebanon on or after 12th July 2006 because of the armed conflict there. ” .
(6) In regulation 6(2)(f), omit “and”.
(7) At the end of regulation 6(2)(g), insert “; and”.
(8) After regulation 6(2)(g), insert—
“ (h) during the relevant period, a person who left Lebanon on or after 12th July 2006 because of the armed conflict there. ” .

For these purposes, “person subject to immigration control” has the meaning given by section 13(2) of the Asylum and Immigration Act 1996 (c. 49) (see sections 160A(3) and 185(2) of the Housing Act 1996). That provision defines “person subject to immigration control” as a person who under the Immigration Act 1971 (c. 77) requires leave to enter or remain in the United Kingdom (whether or not such leave has been given).
