The Secretary of State makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by section 69(5) and (6) of the Electoral Administration Act 2006( 1 ):

1. —(1) These Regulations may be cited as The Encouraging Electoral Participation (Reimbursement of Expenses) (England and Wales) Regulations 2006 and come into force on 1st April 2007.

(2) In these Regulations, “year” means a period of 12 months ending on 31st March.

2. The total amount that may be paid to local electoral officers in England and Wales in pursuance of section 69(4) of the Electoral Administration Act 2006 in the year ending on 31st March 2008 and each successive year is £2,500,000.
