The Secretary of State makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by section 20(6) of the Clean Air Act 1993( 1 ).

Citation and commencement

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Smoke Control Areas (Authorised Fuels) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2008; they come into force on 1st October 2008.

Amendment

2. In Schedule 1 (authorised fuels) to the Smoke Control Areas (Authorised Fuels) (England) Regulations 2008( 2 ), after paragraph 42, insert—

42A. Therma Briquettes, manufactured by Maxibrite Limited at Llantrisant, Rhondda Cynon Taff, which—

(a) comprise anthracite fines (as to approximately 84% of the total weight), petroleum coke (as to approximately 12% of the total weight) and starch as binder (as to the remaining weight);

(b) were manufactured from those constituents by a process involving roll-pressing and heat treatment at 250°C;

(c) are oval/tear shaped briquettes with a line through the centre;

(d) have an average weight of 26 grams per briquette; and

(e) have a sulphur content not exceeding 2% of the total weight. .
