The Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families makes the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 61(5) and 65 of the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006( 1 ).
Citation and interpretation
1. —(1) This Order may be cited as the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006 (Commencement No. 1) (England) Order 2008.
(2) In this Order, “the Act” means the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006.
Provisions coming into force on the 17th December 2008
2. 17th December 2008 is the day appointed for the coming into force of the following provisions of the Act for the purposes of making regulations( 2 )—
(a) section 63(1) (amendments and repeals) in so far as it relates to the provisions of Schedule 9 set out in paragraphs (b) and (c);
(b) (i) paragraph 5(2), (3), (6) and (7), in relation to England;
(ii) paragraph 5(4);
(iii) paragraph 5(1), in so far as it relates to the provisions specified in sub-paragraphs (i) and (ii);
(iv) paragraph 6(2), (3) and (6), in relation to England;
(v) paragraph 6(4);
(vi) paragraph 6(1), in so far as it relates to the provisions specified in sub-paragraphs (iv) and (v);
(vii) paragraph 7, in relation to England;
(c) paragraph 2, in so far as it relates to the provisions specified in paragraph (b).

The provisions brought into force by article 2 make amendments to sections 15 and 15A of, and Schedule 2 to, the Teaching and Higher Education Act 1998 (c. 30) under which Regulations may be made setting out the information to be provided by employers to the General Teaching Council for England on the dismissal of teachers from their posts, and making provision relating to the disciplinary functions of the Council.
