The Identity Cards Act 2006 (Commencement No. 6) Order 2009

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 44(3) and (4) of the Identity Cards Act 2006( 1 ), makes the following Order:

Citation

1. This Order may be cited as the Identity Cards Act 2006 (Commencement No. 6) Order 2009.

Commencement

2. —(1)Section 2(1) and (2), and section 5(1)(b), of the Identity Cards Act 2006 shall come into force on 4 th January 2010 in relation to any person to whom paragraph (2) applies, except to the extent that those provisions are already in force in respect of such persons.

(2) This paragraph applies to a British citizen who –

(a) holds, or has at any time on or after 1 st January 2009 held, a United Kingdom passport (within the meaning of the Immigration Act 1971( 2 )) which provides evidence of his British citizenship; and

(b) either –

(i) the address of his place of residence is located in an area in England to which one of the postcodes listed in the Schedule corresponds; or

(ii) is employed and his place of work is permanently or temporarily at premises located in an area in England to which one of the postcodes listed in the Schedule corresponds.
