The Secretary of State makes the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 14(6) and 22A(2) of the Football Spectators Act 1989( 1 ).
The Secretary of State considers that the provision made by article 2 of this Order is expedient in order to secure the effective enforcement of Part II of that Act.
Citation, commencement and interpretation
1. —(1) This Order may be cited as the Football Spectators (2010 World Cup Control Period) Order 2010 and shall come into force on 22nd February 2010.
(2) In this Order—
“the Tournament” means the external tournament known as the 2010 FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) World Cup in South Africa, and
“Part II” means Part II of the Football Spectators Act 1989.
Control Period
2.Section 14(6)(a) of the Football Spectators Act 1989 shall have effect in relation to the Tournament as if, for the reference to five days, there were substituted a reference to ten days.
3. —(1) In relation to the Tournament, the period described in paragraph (2) below is a control period for the purposes of Part II.
(2) The period referred to in paragraph (1) above is the period beginning on 1st June 2010, being ten days before the day of the first football match which is included in the Tournament, and ending when the last match included in the Tournament (which, subject to postponement, is due to be on 11th July 2010) is finished or cancelled.

Section 22A was inserted by section 1(2) of, and paragraphs 9 and 18 of Schedule 2 to, the Football (Disorder) Act 2000; section 22A was amended by section 65 of, and Schedule 5 to, the Violent Crime Reduction Act 2006 (c. 38) and section 39(2) of the Identity Cards Act 2006 (c. 15) .
