The Learning and Skills Council for England (Strategy for Greater Manchester) Order 2010

The Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills makes the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by section 24A(1) of the Learning and Skills Act 2000( 1 ).

Citation, commencement and interpretation

1. —(1) This Order may be cited as the Learning and Skills Council for England (Strategy for Greater Manchester) Order 2010 and comes into force on 4th March 2010.

(2) In this Order—

(3) the Act” means the Learning and Skills Act 2000 ;

(4) the Commission” means the Commission for the New Economy Limited ( 2 );

(5) the Council” means the Learning and Skills Council for England”;

(6) Greater Manchester” means the metropolitan county of Greater Manchester.

Specified area and body

2. For the purposes of section 24A(1) of the Act—

(a) Greater Manchester is specified as an area; and

(b) the Commission is specified as the body in relation to that area.

Specified functions of the Council

3. For the purposes of section 24A(1) of the Act the specified functions of the Council are—

(a) the duty of the Council in section 3(1)(a) of the Act to secure the provision of reasonable facilities for education (other than higher education) suitable to the requirements of persons who have attained the age of 19;

(b) the duty of the Council in section 3(1)(b) of the Act to secure the provision of reasonable facilities for training suitable to the requirements of such persons;

(c) the power of the Council in section 12(6) of the Act to secure the provision of facilities for providing information, advice or guidance about education or training or connected matters (including employment).
