The Secretary of State for Transport in exercise of the powers conferred by section 14(1)(b) of the Severn Bridges Act 1992( 1 ), makes the following Regulations.

Citation and Commencement

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Severn Bridges (Amendment) Regulations 2010 and come into force on 19th March 2010.

Amendments to the Severn Bridges Regulations 1996

2. The Severn Bridges Regulations 1996( 2 ) are amended in accordance with these Regulations.

Place and manner of payment

3. In Regulation 5(1), omit the comma following the phrase “shall be paid by the driver of the vehicle” and for the words “in cash” substitute “by a recognised means of payment,” and omit the words “by the insertion of coins”.

4. After Regulation 5(4) add—

(5) For the purpose of this regulation, “recognised” means—

(a) where the power to levy tolls is for the time being exercisable by the concessionaire, recognised and accepted by the concessionaire; or

(b) where the power to levy tolls is for the time being exercisable by the Secretary of State, recognised and accepted by the Secretary of State. .
