The Welfare Reform Act 2009 (Commencement No.8) Order 2012

In accordance with section 61(5) of the Welfare Reform Act 2009( 1 ), the Secretary of State has consulted the Registrar General for England and Wales before making this Order.

The Secretary of State makes the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by section 61(3) and (4)(a) of the Welfare Reform Act 2009.

Citation

1. This Order may be cited as the Welfare Reform Act 2009 (Commencement No.8) Order 2012.

Appointed day

2. —(1) 21st May 2012 is the day appointed for section 3(1) (lone parents) of the Welfare Reform Act 2009 to come into force, for the purpose only of inserting subsection (1A) into section 124 of the Social Security Contributions and Benefits Act 1992( 2 ).

(2) 28th May 2012 is the day appointed for the following provisions of the Welfare Reform Act 2009 to come into force—

(a) section 56 (registration of births) in so far as it relates to the entries in Schedule 6 to that Act set out in sub-paragraph (b); and

(b) paragraphs 5 to 9, 12(4), 14 and 20 of Schedule 6.

1992. c.4 . Section 124(1A) was amended by section 58(1) and (2) of the Welfare Reform Act 2012 (c.5) . There are further amendments to section 124 which are not material to this Order.
