The Secretary of State makes the following Order in exercise of the power conferred by section 25(1) of the Welsh Language Act 1993( 1 ).

Citation and commencement

1. This Order may be cited as the Welsh Language (Police Names) Order 2012, and comes into force on 22nd November 2012.

Welsh names

2. There are hereby conferred on those police and crime commissioners established under section 1 of the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011( 2 ) which are, by virtue of section 1(3) of that Act, known by the names listed in column 1 of Schedule 1 to this Order, the alternative names in Welsh specified in column 2 of that Schedule.

3. There are hereby conferred on those chief constables established under section 2 of the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011 which are, by virtue of paragraph 3 of Schedule 2 to that Act, known by the names listed in column 1 of Schedule 2 to this Order, the alternative names in Welsh specified in column 2 of that Schedule.
