The Lord Chancellor, in exercise of the powers conferred by paragraph 1(3) of Schedule 2, paragraph 2(1)(a) of Schedule 3 and paragraph 1(1) of Schedule 22 to the Coroners and Justice Act 2009( 1 ) and after consulting in accordance with paragraph 1(4) of Schedule 2 and paragraph 2(2) of Schedule 3 to that Act, makes the following Order.
Citation and commencement
1. —(1) This Order may be cited as the Coroners and Justice Act 2009 (Coroner Areas and Assistant Coroners) Transitional Order 2013.
2. This Order comes into force on the 25th July 2013.
Interpretation
3. In this Order—
“coroner’s district” means a coroner’s district constituted under the Coroners Act 1988( 2 ), as it exists immediately before the day on which this Order comes into force;
“coroner area” means a coroner area specified by this Order.

4. Each coroner’s district listed in the table in the Schedule to this Order is specified as a coroner area with the same name (but ending with “coroner area” instead of “coroner’ district”).
Appointment of an assistant coroner for each coroner area
5. At least one assistant coroner must be appointed for each coroner area specified by this Order.
