The Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 1(5) and 262(3) of the Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learning Act 2009( 1 ).

In accordance with section 262(6) of that Act, a draft of this instrument was laid before Parliament and approved by a resolution of each House of Parliament.

Citation and commencement

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Apprenticeships (Alternative English Completion Conditions) (Amendment) Regulations 2013 and come into force on the day after the day on which the Regulations are made.

Amendment of the Apprenticeships (Alternative English Completion Conditions) Regulations 2012

2. In the table in Schedule 1 to the Apprenticeships (Alternative English Completion Conditions) Regulations 2012( 2 ), after the last row insert—

Merchant Navy (deck)

Merchant Navy (engineering)

Officer of the watch on merchant vessels of less than 500 gross tonnage (near coastal) including tugs

Officer of the watch on merchant vessels of less than 3,000 gross tonnage (near coastal) including tugs
