The Borough of Doncaster (Scheme of Elections) Order 2013

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 86(A1), (4) and (7), 87(1) and (3) and 105 of the Local Government Act 2000( 1 ) makes the following Order:

Citation, commencement and interpretation

1. β€”(1) This Order may be cited as the Borough of Doncaster (Scheme of Elections) Order 2013 and shall come into force on 1st June 2014.

(2) In this Order β€œthe ordinary day of election of councillors” has the same meaning as in section 37 of the Representation of the People Act 1983( 2 ).

Elections of the council of the Borough of Doncaster

2. β€”(1) Subject to paragraphs (4) and (5), the scheme for the ordinary elections of councillors for all wards of the Borough of Doncaster shall be a scheme under whichβ€”

(a) the term of office of councillors is four years;

(b) the elections are held in a given year and every fourth year after it;

(c) all the councillors are elected in each year in which the elections are held; and

(d) the councillors retire together.

(2) The first ordinary elections of councillors under the scheme referred to in paragraph (1) shall be held in 2015.

(3) The councillors holding office for any ward of the Borough immediately before the fourth day after the ordinary day of election of councillors in 2015 shall retire on that date and the newly elected councillors for those wards shall come into office on that date.

(4) Subsequent ordinary elections of councillors under the scheme referred to in paragraph (1) shall be held in 2017 and every fourth year after 2017.

(5) The councillors holding office for any ward of the Borough immediately before the fourth day after the ordinary day of election of councillors in 2017 shall retire on that date and the newly elected councillors for those wards shall come into office on that date.

Changes to years of parish elections

3. β€”(1) The ordinary elections of parish councillors for all parishes within the Borough of Doncaster that would, but for this Order, have taken place in 2019 and every fourth year after 2019 shall instead take place on the ordinary day of election of councillors in 2021 and every fourth year after 2021.

(2) The parish councillors holding office for any parish within the Borough of Doncaster who would, but for this Order, have retired on the fourth day after the ordinary day of election of councillors in 2019 shall retire on the fourth day after the ordinary day of election of councillors in 2021.

Revocation

4.Article 4 of the Borough of Doncaster (Electoral Changes) Order 2004( 3 ) is revoked.
