The M1 Motorway (A5 – M1 Link Dunstable Northern Bypass Connecting Roads) Scheme 2014

The Secretary of State for Transport makes this scheme in exercise of powers conferred by sections 16, 17 and 19 of the Highways Act 1980( 1 ) and now vested in the Secretary of State( 2 ) and( 3 ):—

1. This scheme may be cited as The M1 Motorway (A5 – M1 Link Dunstable Northern Bypass Connecting Roads) Scheme 2014 and shall come into force on 24 July 2014.

2. In this Scheme:

(1) all measurements of distance are measured along the route of the relevant highway:

(i) connecting road” means a special road along a route described in the Schedule to this Scheme;

(ii) the Motorway” means the existing special road.

(iii) the plan” means the plan folio numbered HA 16/MP/028 marked “The M1 Motorway (A5 – M1 Link Dunstable Northern Bypass) Connecting Roads Scheme 2014”, signed by authority of the Secretary of State for Transport and deposited at Document Deposit Service, Communities and Local Government, Floor 13 (IMD), Ashdown House, St Leonards on Sea, Hastings, East Sussex TN37 7GA; and

(iv) the special roads” means the Motorway and each connecting road.

3. The Secretary of State is authorised to provide the special roads for the exclusive use of traffic of Classes I and II of the classes of traffic set out in Schedule 4 to the Highways Act 1980.

4. The centre line of each of the special roads is indicated by a heavy black line on the plan.

5. Each of the special roads shall become a trunk road on the date when this Scheme comes into force.

Article 2(2)(i)

SCHEDULE 1 ROUTES OF THE CONNECTING ROADS

The routes of the slip roads are as follows:

(1) Junction with A5-M1 Link Dunstable Northern Bypass at Chalton

(i) Two routes to connect the north bound M1 Motorway with a roundabout which the Secretary of State proposes to construct as part of the A5 Trunk Road (A5-M1 Link Dunstable Northern Bypass) at Chalton in the county of Bedfordshire (the special roads along these routes being respectively given the numbers 1 and 2 on the plan);

(ii) Two routes to connect the south bound M1 Motorway with a roundabout which the Secretary of State proposes to construct as part of the A5 Trunk Road (A5-M1 Link Dunstable Northern Bypass) at Chalton in the county of Bedfordshire (the special roads along these routes being respectively given the numbers 3 and 4 on the plan);
