Coming into force in accordance with article 1

The Secretary of State for Transport, makes this Instrument in exercise of the powers conferred by section 106(3) of the Highways Act 1980( 1 ), and now vested in the Secretary of State( 2 ):

1. This Instrument may be cited as The Council of the City of Wakefield (Wakefield Eastern Relief Road) Bridge Scheme 2015 Confirmation Instrument 2015 and shall come into force on the date on which notice that it has been confirmed is first published in accordance with paragraph 1 of Schedule 2 to the Highways Act 1980.

2. The Council of the City of Wakefield (Wakefield Eastern Relief Road) Bridge Scheme 2015 (“the Scheme”) is hereby confirmed with modifications.

3. The Scheme as confirmed is set out in the Schedule hereto (including the plan) and copies of the Scheme with its accompanying plan are deposited at the offices of the Department for Transport, Floor 13 (IMD), Ashdown House, St Leonards on Sea, Hastings, East Sussex, TN37 7GA and at the offices of the Council of the City of Wakefield, Wakefield One, Burton Street, Wakefield, WF1 2EB.

SCHEDULE

THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WAKEFIELD (WAKEFIELD EASTERN RELIEF ROAD) BRIDGE SCHEME 2015

The Council of the City of Wakefield (hereinafter referred to as “the Council”) make this Scheme in exercise of their powers under section 106(3) of the Highways Act 1980 and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf—

1. The Council are authorised to construct over the navigable waters of the River Calder the Bridge specified in the Schedule to this Scheme as part of the highway which they are proposing to construct between the A638 Doncaster Road to the south and the A642 Aberford Road to the north as part of the Wakefield Eastern Relief Road scheme, in the Metropolitan District of Wakefield.

2. This Scheme may be cited as The Council of the City of Wakefield (Wakefield Eastern Relief Road) Bridge Scheme 2015.

SCHEDULE TO THE SCHEME

Plans and Specifications of the Council of the City of Wakefield (Wakefield Eastern Relief Road) Bridge Scheme 2015

The location and general design of the Bridge are shown on drawing 1058431-SPEC-STR-001-B.

Points of Commencement and Termination

Old Power Station Site Approach - From a point at the south bank of the River Calder 308 metres east of the railway bridge and 75 metres west of the outfall to Oakenshaw Beck.

Keyland (Yorkshire Water) Approach - From a point at the north bank of the River Calder 307 metres east of the railway bridge and 135 metres south west of the overhead power lines.

Span

The bridge has a clear span of 58 metres.

Headway

The headway shall not be less than 2.5 metres above the towpath and not be less than 5.0 metres above the river water level. This headway being determined by a water level of 19.320 above Ordnance Datum.

Waterway

The entire navigable width of the waterway is maintained.

Overall Dimensions

The overall Bridge width will be 13.5 metres. The Bridge will carry a 7.3 metre wide single carriageway. A 2 metre footway will be provided to the western side. On the eastern side there will be a 3 metre wide shared cycle way/footway.
