The Secretary of State makes the following Order in exercise of the power conferred by section 3(6) of the Terrorism Act 2000( 1 ).
In accordance with section 3(6)(a) of that Act, the Secretary of State believes that the organisation referred to in article 2 of this Order, being an organisation in Schedule 2 to that Act, is operating wholly or partly under a name that is not specified in that Schedule (whether as well as or instead of under the specified name).
Citation and commencement
1. This Order may be cited as the Proscribed Organisations (Name Change) Order 2016 and comes into force on the day after the day on which it is laid before Parliament.
Name change
2. Jabhat Fatah al-Sham, being a name that is not specified in Schedule 2 to the Terrorism Act 2000, is to be treated as another name for the organisation listed in that Schedule as Al-Qa’ida( 2 ).

2000 c. 11 ; section 3(6) was inserted by section 22(2) of the Terrorism Act 2006 (c. 11) .
Al-Qa’ida was added to Schedule 2 to the Terrorism Act 2000 by article 2 of S.I. 2001/1261 . Article 2 of S.I. 2013/1795 specifies that “al-Nusrah Front” and “Jabhat al-Nusrah li-ahl al Sham” are to be treated as other names for Al-Qa’ida.
