The Secretary of State for Work and Pensions makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 5(1)(a), 189(1) and (4) and 191 of the Social Security Administration Act 1992( 1 ).

In accordance with section 173(1)(b) of the Social Security Administration Act 1992, the Social Security Advisory Committee has agreed that the proposals in respect of these Regulations should not be referred to it.

Citation and commencement

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Social Security (Claims and Payments) (Social Fund Maternity Grant) (Amendment) Regulations 2018 and come into force on 18th October 2018.

Amendments to the Social Security (Claims and Payments) Regulations 1987

2. In Schedule 4 of the Social Security (Claims and Payments) Regulations 1987( 2 ) (prescribed times for claiming benefit), in each of the entries (a) to (f) in column 2 relating to paragraph 8 (social fund payment in respect of maternity expenses) for “3 months” substitute “6 months”.
