The Queen’s Most Excellent Majesty in Council

The Archbishops of Canterbury and York have made the joint request referred to in section 84 of the Coronavirus Act 2020( 1 ).

Her Majesty, in exercise of the powers conferred by that section, is pleased by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order as follows:

Citation and commencement

1. —(1) This Order may be cited as the General Synod of the Church of England (Postponement of Elections) (Amendment) Order 2020.

(2) This Order comes into force on the day after the date on which it is made.

Ancillary provision

2. —(1) In the General Synod of the Church of England (Postponement of Elections) Order 2020( 2 ), after Article 3 insert—

Ancillary provision: members of the Cathedrals Fabric Commission for England

4. Each person who, immediately before the end of 30th April 2021, is a member of the Cathedrals Fabric Commission for England is, in spite of paragraph 7 of Schedule 1 to the Care of Cathedrals Measure 2011 ( 3 ) (which provides for a member’s term of office to run for five years), to continue as a member of the Commission until—

(a) 30th April in the year following that in which the next dissolution of the General Synod takes place, or

(b) if, before that date, the person’s membership of the Commission otherwise comes to an end, the date on which it does so come to an end.

(2) In the heading to Article 3 of that Order, after “Ancillary provision” insert “: members of the General Synod”.
