The M1 Motorway (Junction 2) (50 Miles Per Hour Speed Limit) Regulations 2020

The Secretary of State makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by section 17(2) and (3) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984( 1 ).

Representative organisations have been consulted in accordance with section 134(2) of that Act.

Citation and commencement

1. These Regulations may be cited as the M1 Motorway (Junction 2) (50 Miles Per Hour Speed Limit) Regulations 2020 and come into force on 10th November 2020.

Interpretation

2. In these Regulations—

“A1” means the road known by that name;

carriageway”, in relation to a motorway, and “motorway” have the same meaning as in the Motorways Traffic (England and Wales) Regulations 1982 ( 2 );

carriageway”, in relation to a road other than a motorway, has the same meaning as in section 329 of the Highways Act 1980 ( 3 );

“M1” means the motorway known by that name; and

the specified roads” means-

(a)

that length of the M1 at junction 2 from the southbound carriageway of the M1 to the southbound carriageway of the A1 from a point 309 metres south-east of the centre of Five Ways footbridge to a point 279 metres north-west of the centre of Greenlands Lane footbridge; and

(b)

that length of the M1 at junction 2 from the northbound carriageway of the A1 to the northbound carriageway of the M1 from a point 278 metres north-west of the centre of Greenlands Lane footbridge to a point 181 metres south-east of the centre of Five Ways footbridge.

50 miles per hour speed limit

3. No person shall drive a vehicle on either of the specified roads at a speed exceeding 50 miles per hour.
