The Offensive Weapons Act 2019 (Commencement No. 1) (England and Wales) Regulations 2020

The Secretary of State makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by section 70(1) of the Offensive Weapons Act 2019( 1 ):

Citation and extent

1. —(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Offensive Weapons Act 2019 (Commencement No. 1) (England and Wales) Regulations 2020.

(2) These Regulations extend to England and Wales.

Commencement of section 44 of the Offensive Weapons Act 2019

2. Subsections (1) and (4) of section 44 of the Offensive Weapons Act 2019 (defences to offences relating to dangerous knives) come into force on 10th December 2020 for the purpose of inserting the following provisions into section 1 of the Restriction of Offensive Weapons Act 1959( 2 )—

(a) new subsection (3), other than paragraph (b);

(b) new subsections (6) to (8), so far as they apply to subsection (3) of that section.
