M1 The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 151(4), 153(6), 163(1) and 175(1), (3) and (4) of the Social Security Contributions and Benefits Act 1992 , makes the following Regulations.

M2 In accordance with section 173(1)(a) of the Social Security Administration Act 1992 , it appears to the Secretary of State that by reason of the urgency of this matter it is inexpedient to refer the proposals in respect of these Regulations to the Social Security Advisory Committee.

Citation and commencement I1

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Statutory Sick Pay (General) (Coronavirus Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations 2020 and come into force on 17th March 2020.

Amendment of the Statutory Sick Pay (General) Regulations 1982 I2

M3 2. —(1) Regulation 2 of the Statutory Sick Pay (General) Regulations 1982 is amended as follows.

(2) In paragraph (1)(c)(i)—

(a) omit “disease”;

(b) for “12th” substitute “ 16th ” .

(3) In paragraph (4) for the definition of “coronavirus disease” substitute—

coronavirus ” means severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2.
