The Secretary of State makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 31(4)(a) and (5) and 70(1) of the Offensive Weapons Act 2019( 1 ).
Citation, commencement and extent
1. —(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Offensive Weapons Act 2019 (Commencement No. 2) (England and Wales) (Amendment) Regulations 2022 and come into force on the day after the day on which they are made.
(2) These Regulations extend to England and Wales.
Amendment to the Offensive Weapons Act 2019 (Commencement No. 2) (England and Wales) Regulations 2021
2. In the Offensive Weapons Act 2019 (Commencement No. 2) (England and Wales) Regulations 2021( 2 ), in the definition of “the specified period” in regulation 1(2), for “of 14 months beginning with 5th July 2021” substitute “beginning with 5th July 2021 and ending with 31st March 2023” ( 3 ).

2019 c. 17 (“ the Act ”). Section 31(5) of the Act provides that regulations containing a provision by virtue of subsection (4)(a) may be amended by subsequent regulations under section 70(1) so as to continue any provision of Part 2 of the Act in force for the specified purpose or in relation to the specified area for a further specified period.
S.I. 2021/762 brought provisions of Part 2 of the Act into force on 5th July 2021 for a specified period in relation to specified areas and purposes.
The effect of this amendment is to extend the pilot period of knife crime prevention orders.
