The Secretary of State makes this Order in exercise of the powers conferred by section 1(1)(c) and (8) of the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991( 1 ).

Citation, commencement and extent I1

1. —(1) This Order may be cited as the Dangerous Dogs (Designated Types) (England and Wales) Order 2023.

(2) This Order comes into force on 31st December 2023.

(3) This Order extends to England and Wales.

Designation for the purposes of section 1 of the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 I2

2. The type of dog known as the XL Bully is designated for the purposes of section 1 of the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991, being a type appearing to the Secretary of State to be bred for fighting or to have the characteristics of a type bred for that purpose.

3. The appointed day for the purposes of section 1(3) and (4) of the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 in respect of dogs of the type designated by article 2 is 31st January 2024. F1]
