The Secretary of State, being of the opinion that there has been a change in the value of money since 28th January 2005 justifying the variations made by this Order, makes this Order in exercise of the powers conferred by section 197(3) of the Representation of the People Act 1983( 1 ).

Citation, commencement and extent

1. —(1) This Order may be cited as the Representation of the People (Variation of Limits of Candidates’ Election Expenses) (City of London) Order 2024 and comes into force on 4th December 2024.

(2) This Order extends to England and Wales.

Variations of candidates’ election expenses: City of London

2. In section 197 of the Representation of the People 1983 Act (candidate’s expenses: ward, and liverymen in common hall, elections)—

(a) in subsection (1)—

(i) for “£266” substitute “£460” ;

(ii) for “5.2p” substitute “9p” ;

(b) in subsection (2), for “28.3p” substitute “49p” .
