The Secretary of State makes this Order in exercise of the powers conferred by section 1(5) and (6) of the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991( 1 ).
Citation, commencement and extent
1. —(1) This Order may be cited as the Dangerous Dogs (Exemption Schemes and Miscellaneous Provisions) (England and Wales) (Amendment) Order 2024.
(2) This Order comes into force on 12th January 2024.
(3) This Order extends to England and Wales.
Amendment of the Dangerous Dogs (Exemption Schemes and Miscellaneous Provisions) (England and Wales) Order 2023
2. —(1)The Dangerous Dogs (Exemption Schemes and Miscellaneous Provisions) (England and Wales) Order 2023( 2 ) is amended as follows.
(2) In article 2 (interpretation), for the definition of “rehoming organisation” substitute—
“ “ rehoming organisation ” means an organisation—
whose purposes are, or include—
the provision of care to dogs that have been abandoned or relinquished by their previous owners; and
the rehoming of dogs taken into the organisation’s care; and
which was carrying on the activities described in paragraph (a)(i) and (ii) on 31st October 2023. ” .
(3) In article 4 (application for a certificate of exemption)—
(a) in paragraph (1), for “31st October 2023” substitute “30th December 2023” ;
(b) in paragraph (4), in sub-paragraphs (a) and (c), for “15th January 2024” substitute “22nd January 2024” .
