By accessing or using zoomLaw.co.uk (“the Site”), you agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions. If you do not agree, you must not use the Site. We reserve the right to refuse or terminate access to any user who breaches these terms.

2. About the Service

zoomLaw is an informational resource providing enhanced access to UK legislation and case law. Content is derived from publicly available sources, including legislation.gov.uk and the National Archives. Nothing on this Site constitutes legal advice. You should consult a qualified legal professional before acting on any information found here.

3. Intellectual Property

UK legislation is subject to Crown Copyright and is reproduced under the terms of the Open Government Licence v3.0. The compilation, enhancements, annotations, cross-references, navigation features, search indexes, and overall presentation of content on zoomLaw are the intellectual property of zoomLaw and are protected by copyright. You may not reproduce, redistribute, or create derivative works from these materials without express written permission.

4. Prohibited Use — Data Harvesting & Scraping

The following activities are expressly prohibited:

Automated scraping, crawling, data mining, screen scraping, or any other automated means of extracting content from the Site.
Bulk downloading, systematic extraction, or programmatic reproduction of any data, documents, or datasets from the Site.
Use of bots, spiders, web crawlers, automated scripts, or any software tools designed to access, index, or collect data from the Site without prior written authorisation.
Building or contributing to derivative databases, datasets, or competing services using content obtained from the Site.
Circumventing, disabling, or interfering with any security, access-control, or rate-limiting features of the Site.

Breach of this section may result in immediate termination of access without notice. We actively monitor for automated access and reserve the right to block IP addresses, pursue injunctive relief, and seek damages for any losses arising from unauthorised data harvesting. Legal proceedings may be brought under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, the Computer Misuse Act 1990, and any other applicable legislation.

5. Acceptable Use

The Site is provided for personal, non-commercial research and reference purposes only. You may view, print, and download reasonable extracts for your own use. You may not redistribute, republish, or make available any substantial part of the Site’s content to third parties without our written consent.

6. Limitation of Liability

The Site and its content are provided “as is” and “as available” without any warranty, express or implied. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or currency of any information. To the fullest extent permitted by law, zoomLaw shall not be liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of or reliance upon the Site, including (without limitation) any indirect, consequential, or incidental loss.

7. Data Protection

zoomLaw is the data controller for personal data collected through the Site. We collect only the minimum data necessary to operate the service:

Account information — managed via our authentication provider (Clerk), including your name, email address, and login credentials.
Analytics data — anonymised usage statistics collected via Google Analytics to help us improve the service.

Our lawful bases for processing are legitimate interests (operating and improving the service) and consent (where applicable). We do not sell your personal data to third parties. You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data by contacting us at the address below.

8. Cookies

The Site uses a limited number of cookies:

Essential cookies — required for authentication sessions and theme preferences. These cannot be disabled without affecting Site functionality.
Analytics cookies — placed by Google Analytics to collect anonymised usage data. You may disable these via your browser settings or by using a browser extension such as the Google Analytics Opt-out Add-on.

We do not use advertising, tracking, or third-party marketing cookies.

9. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time. The “last updated” date at the top of this page will be revised accordingly. Your continued use of the Site after any changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising under or in connection with these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

The Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022 (Counselling Services) Regulations 2025

The Secretary of State makes these Regulations in exercise of the power conferred by section 44A(5) (including as applied by section 44F(1)) of the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022(1).

Citation, commencement and extent

1.—(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022 (Counselling Services) Regulations 2025 and come into force on 12th January 2026.

(2) These Regulations extend to England and Wales, subject as follows.

(3) Insofar as these Regulations relate to the persons mentioned in section 44F(2) (application of Chapter 3A to service police etc) of the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022, these Regulations extend to England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Description of counselling services

2. A counselling service is of a description specified for the purpose of section 44A(5) of the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022 if it is a service, whether paid or unpaid, offering psychological or emotional support to a service user for the purpose of improving the service user’s emotional or mental health.
