The King’s Most Excellent Majesty in Council

His Majesty, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 157A(5) of the Government of Wales Act 2006(1), is pleased, by and with the advice of His Privy Council, to order as follows:

Citation, commencement and extent

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Government of Wales Act 2006 (Devolved Welsh Authorities) (Amendment) Order 2025.

(2) An amendment made by this Order has the same extent as the provision amended.

(3) This Order comes into force on 8th January 2026.

Amendment of Schedule 9A to the Government of Wales Act 2006

2. In Schedule 9A(2) to the Government of Wales Act 2006 (devolved Welsh authorities)—

(a)omit—

The Independent Remuneration Panel for Wales or Panel Annibynnol Cymru ar Gydnabyddiaeth Ariannol. (3);

(b)omit—

The Local Democracy and Boundary Commission for Wales or Comisiwn Ffiniau a Democratiaeth Leol Cymru. (4);

(c)after the entry for “A county council, county borough council or community council in Wales” insert—

The Democracy and Boundary Commission Cymru or Comisiwn Democratiaeth a Ffiniau Cymru.

2006 c. 32. Section 157A was inserted by section 4(1) of the Wales Act 2017 (c. 4) and amended by paragraph 2(19) of Schedule 1 to the Senedd and Elections (Wales) Act 2020 (anaw 1) and section 45(3) of the Fisheries Act 2020 (c. 22).

Schedule 9A was inserted by section 4(2) of the Wales Act 2017. There are amendments to Schedule 9A not relevant to this Order.

Section 56 of the Elections and Elected Bodies (Wales) Act 2024 (asc 5) abolishes the Independent Remuneration Panel for Wales.

By section 12 of the Senedd Cymru (Members and Elections) Act 2024 (asc 4), the Local Democracy and Boundary Commission for Wales is renamed as the Democracy and Boundary Commission Cymru.
