The Secretary of State makes these Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by section 71(1), (2) and (2A) of the Investigatory Powers Act 2016(1).

Citation, commencement and extent

1.—(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Investigatory Powers (Communications Data) (Relevant Public Authorities) Regulations 2026 and come into force on 11th May 2026.

(2) These Regulations extend to England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Amendment to Schedule 4 to the Investigatory Powers Act 2016

2.—(1) The table in Part 1 of Schedule 4 to the Investigatory Powers Act 2016 (table of authorities and officers etc.)(2) is amended as follows.

(2) Omit the entries for the following relevant public authorities

(a)East Midlands Ambulance Service;

(b)Northern Ireland Ambulance Service Health and Social Care Trust;

(c)North West Ambulance Service;

(d)South East Coast Ambulance Service;

(e)West Midlands Ambulance Service.

The table in Part 1 of Schedule 4 (which sets out relevant public authorities and any designated senior officers for the purposes of Part 3 of that Act) was substituted by S.I. 2018/1123 and amended by S.I. 2020/661, S.I. 2020/1037, S.I. 2022/1395, S.I. 2025/808, and paragraph 2 of Schedule 4, and paragraphs 43 to 47 of Schedule 5, to the Armed Forces Act 2021 (c. 35).
