The Wireless Telegraphy (Direct to Device Satellite Communications) (Exemption) (Amendment) Regulations 2026

The Office of Communications (“OFCOM”), in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 8(3) and 122(7) of the Wireless Telegraphy Act 2006(1), make the following Regulations.

Before making these Regulations, OFCOM have given notice of their proposal to do so in accordance with section 122(4)(a) of the Act, published notice of their proposal in accordance with section 122(4)(b) of the Act, and have considered the representations made to them before the time specified in the notice in accordance with section 122(4)(c) of the Act.

Citation and commencement

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Wireless Telegraphy (Direct to Device Satellite Communications) (Exemption) (Amendment) Regulations 2026 and shall come into force on 10th July 2026.

Amendment of the Wireless Telegraphy (Direct to Device Satellite Communications) (Exemption) Regulations 2026

2.—(1) The Wireless Telegraphy (Direct to Device Satellite Communications) (Exemption) Regulations 2026(2) are amended as follows.

(2) In regulation 4, paragraph (5)—

(a)omit “and” after sub-paragraph (a);

(b)for sub-paragraph (b) substitute “Megahertz;” for “Megahertz.”; and

(c)after sub-paragraph (b), insert—

“(c)880.1-885.1 Megahertz; and

(d)925.1-930.1 Megahertz.”.

(3) For regulation 4, paragraph (8) substitute—

“(8) When transmitting using the GSM standard, the mean power must not exceed—

(a)30dBm total radiated power when transmitting on the frequencies specified in regulation 4, paragraph (5), sub-paragraphs (a) and (b); and

(b)33 dBm total radiated power when transmitting on the frequencies specified in regulation 4, paragraph (5), sub-paragraphs (c) and (d).”.
